Connecticut
Connecticut was founded in 1636 by Thomas Hooker. The reason for its founding was because some people did not want to live in Massachusetts in fear that government had too much power over it's citizens. Connecticut's economy consisted of farming, agriculture, and fishing. There is a river flowing through the colony called the "Connecticut River". There are a few small mountains but most of the land is flat and good for growing crops. The Connecticut government allowed only white males who owned land to vote. The government was limited and the people got to decide on some things by voting. There was a lot more power to the people in Connecticut than in Massachusetts because that is why they broke away from them in the first place. Some important residents included Thomas Hooker, who founded the colony, John Hayes, and Benedict Arnold, who was a major figure in the Revolutionary War. The religion of this colony was Protestant, like England, and that influenced a lot of settlers to move there. Since the religion of this colony was Protestant, to move there you had to be Protestant or accepting of their beliefs and not hateful toward them. The target residents were English farmers and fishermen because the Connecticut environment and soil was great for fishing and growing crops. The founding documents were "The Fundamental Orders of Connecticut" and "The Charter of Connecticut".
