New Jersey
New Jersey was founded in 1664 by Lord Berkey and Sir George Carteret. It was founded because the founder of New York thought his colony was too big so he left some of his land to the two men that founded New Jersey. The reason New Jersey had a mostly agrarian economy. The exported grain, rice, tobacco, and indigo. The colony allowed slaves which helped them produce and harvest a lot more crops. New Jersey had very fertile soil hence the flourishing crop growth. New Jersey had mainly flat land and their weren't many high elevations. The colony had a proprietary government which meant the king gave power to a certain person(s) to run the colony. An important resident of New Jersey was the Duke of York. The main population of this colony was Quaker, however, any religion was welcome. To be a resident of this colony you would have to be accepting of the Quaker religion because that was the majority of the population. The target residents were slave importers and owners, people coming in from New York, and farmers. New Jersey didn't have any significant founding documents.
